4 Detector Performance
The CMS muon detector merges different detector tecniques
operating in different environments and with different
requirements. A glance into the overall detector performance is
therefore required. The important parameter is the muon momentum
resolution. The two detectors were carefully simulated in order
to correctly reproduce test beam data and a Kalman filter
algorithm for track reconstruction was implemented in the
official simulation program. The overall performance of the muon
detector is given in Figure 9, where the momentum resolution
obtained using the muon system and the inner tracker data points
in two relevant positions is reported. The solid line that fits
the points shows that the resolution function scales in the same
way in the barrel and encap regions, thus confirming that the
parameters fixed for the muon chambers provides homogeneity
inside the detector.
