ICARUS DAQ system

The ICARUS DAQ system has about 100 readout crate of front-end electronics, trigger system, high voltage on the top of the detector and control room with a power computers that control all process of the DAQ. The readout rack of the front-end electronics has connection throuth the feedthrouth of the detector with 576 wires of detector.

Short Specification of the electronics modules

1. Digital crate:

The digital crate is standard VME crate. This crate was produced by SCHROFF and has a low value EMC radiation. Inside of crate 18 module V789, the module V816 and 1 CPU are accomodated. There is one special backplane that distribute the global clock and trigger signals between V816 and V789 modules.

1.1. Module V789

The CAEN Model V789 ICARUS digital board is a 32-channel digitizer readout board specially designed for the ICARUS experiment. This board is housed in a 1-unit wide VME module and its function is to read the digital data coming from the Model V791 (ICARUS analog board) and to store them in a Multi Event Buffer (MEB) memory, according to a complex, programmable trigger logic. 1.2. Module V816

This CAEN model V816 board has been designed and special module for ICARUS experiment. This board is accomodeted in the last position of the digital crate and distribute the signals of the trigger, global clock and enable of the DAQ system. For more information see technical specifications:

2. Analogue crate:

Analogue crate accommodate V791 and A764 boards. This crate has 21 slots. There are 18 Analogue boards and one Slow Control module in front of the crate. On the back side of the crate 18 A764 boards are accommodated. For more information see technical specifications:

2.1. Module V791C,Q

The CAEN module V791C(Q) is 32-channel analog board designed as front-end electronics for ICARUS experiment. The V791 module has 32 preamplifiers, 32 shapers, 8 multiplexer, 4 ADC and one fast serial link. Each channel is sampled at 2.5 Ms/s rate and digitized with a 10-bit resolution by using a time division multiplexing technique. The sampling time is 400 ns. 2.2. Module A764

The decoupling board (DB) serves to distribute high voltage, to divide by decoupling capacitors high and low voltage parts of the electronics of the detector, to distribute a calibration signal. Normally the board between feed-though of the detector and analogue board is placed. For each 32 channels one DB module is used. Inside of Module each wire to high voltage supply through several resistor 10 Mohm is connected. The circuit of module is very simple and has calibration capacitors, decoupling capacitors and the circuit to test odd or even channels. The DB has three connectors: input high density connectors (68 pins connector with 34 twisted pair flat cables, with 0.635 mm pitch), output connector 64 pins DIN type connector and the connector with power and calibration signals. 2.3. Module V793 - Slow control Module.

The CAEN model V793 board has been designed for slow control of the analog crates. Each ICARUS analog crate can be equipped with one module V793. The module V793 has functions: Enable/disable the module V791 Set baseline for V791; Generate synchronise clock signal; Measure detector and power supply voltage; Distribute calibration signal. 2.4. Module High Voltage Filter.

The High Voltage Filter (HV Filter) is two channels filter that serve to cut a repetitive high frequency glitches, low frequency disturbs of a high voltage supplies and transmission lines. Each channel has a low pass filter and monitor circuits of the voltage and the current values. The output corresponding coefficients are 5mV/V and 5.5 mV/nA.
